There is no doubt about the importance of imagination in forming a creative personality. We cannot teach imagination, but as teachers, we can model it. We can help our students to collect building blocks and lay a stable foundation of a successful artistic musician. Ability to regenerate the composer’s message in performing piece through appropriate tempo, artistic phrasing and dynamic contrast, becomes possible through the prism of imagination.

I encourage my students to explore the expressive aspects of a musical piece in the elementary level through discussing what the music piece is about, drawing picture and coloring, learning the character and action of the music via singing and dancing, listening and watching to performances, composing, harmonization and improvisation.

After the learning text phase is over here comes the time to move to the creative part – convert notes to music. This is the most emotional and exciting part of learning to play the piano. Students really love it too. They can talk out of their thoughts about the piece, they can experiment with different articulation and dynamics, can draw an imaginative scene to be performed.
For the elementary level students I propose following activities to grow their imagination:

1. Drawing – one of the most important activity for the very young children, which helps them to express their feeling and put their thoughts on the paper without of using words.
2. Singing – an elementary level repertoire/lesson books contain the variety of folk song, nursing rhymes, easy to sing melodies, which help to develop ear, remember and memorize the tune, enjoy the meaning (lyrics)
3. Listening – this park includes listening to the online recording of a plan to learn pieces, introducing the composer and getting to know his music and style, getting to know how different instruments sound.  
4. Dancing helps to connect music and movement assists with building a strong feeling of rhythm, understanding of different historical epochs.
5. Games enhance theory and history knowledge,  improve music reading ability and memory, increase attention span,  help to relax and have fun while learning.
6. Composing intends to develop creativity via utilization of learned patterns and music elements.
7. Performing – for parents, for friends, for imagining audience, on the festivals, recitals.
